Welcome to majestic Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernardino Mountains! One of the few places in Southern California with a four-season experience.
Lake Arrowhead is nestled 5,174 feet high in the San Bernardino National Forest among stately cedars, ponderosas, coulter pines, sugar pines, and oak trees. One of the deepest man-made lakes in the United States, the water shines a deep sapphire blue, which is how it became known as the "Jewel of Southern California."
Originally called Little Bear Valley, the name "Lake Arrowhead" comes from the natural, arrowhead-shaped rock outcropping easily visible on the south side of the mountain. Surrounded by 14 miles of beautiful shoreline, Lake Arrowhead truly is a must-see Southern California destination.
The San Bernardino mountain range runs east to west, creating a unique demonstration of microclimates, flora and fauna. We have four alpine lakes, hiking, water and snow skiing, fishing, boating, kayaking, and more. The Rim of the World Scenic Byway runs 100 miles through our mountain range as well as 15 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. A quick 90 minutes from Los Angeles, Lake Arrowhead is above it all and feels a world away.
Lake Arrowhead is also known as "Hollywood's Playground to the Stars". Over 300 movies have been filmed in the area, including Heidi, starring Shirley Temple, Magnificent Obsession with Rock Hudson and Jayne Wyman, The Parent Trap with Lindsey Lohan, American President with Michael Douglas and Annette Benning, Next with Nicholas Cage, and the TV show Lassie.
